Principal's Message

As the principal of Foothill High School, I am honored to welcome you to the school year. I am excited to lead Foothill into a new era that builds upon its strong legacy and #OneHill community. Foothill's motto is, “Falcons - Soaring Above and Beyond to a New Level of Excellence.” This motto represents Foothill’s unwavering focus on academic and extracurricular excellence as we emerge into a new post-COVID world.

Foothill’s staff members are passionate about ensuring all students feel safe and supported to meet and exceed their potential. Last school year, Foothill was one of the top five fastest improving high schools in math and English in CCSD based on ACT scores and we will continue to build on this success. We are excited about our new initiatives that strive to increase expectations, challenge students, and prepare them for the 21st century. These initiatives include:

  • The first Henderson high school to be named a University of Nevada, Reno Collegiate Academy. Foothill students will earn college credits at Foothill for only $75 per class. Foothill teachers will work directly with UNR professors to ensure college-level coursework is being provided to our students.
  • A semester Public Speaking course for all 9th graders to improve critical communication skills.
  • PreAP curriculum for all 9th and 10th grade English and Biology classes to ensure students are prepared for advanced coursework in upper grades.
  • $1.3 million in security upgrades funded through federal stimulus funds. These improvements include new fencing, a second CCSD Police Officer, and security cameras.

I am a San Diego native and received degrees from UC Berkeley and UNLV including Gifted Education and Educational Administration. I have completed the Howard University Executive Leadership Academy and serve as a Principal Mentor in CCSD. I was a member of the first cohort of Las Vegas Teach for America in 2004 and worked for over a decade in east Las Vegas schools. Before coming to Foothill in 2021, I served as principal of the top-rated high school in Nevada, Advanced Technologies Academy (A-TECH), since 2015. I chose to come to Foothill because of my pride in the Henderson community and the amazing potential Foothill has to become the top school in the state.

By collaborating with the staff and community and holding high academic expectations for all students, we have been able to improve the student experience and preparation for post-graduate life. I know Foothill’s success is critically important to Henderson and I look forward to a close partnership with local officials, stakeholders, parents, and students to make Foothill the place all students can graduate college and career ready. I also encourage parents to get involved with Foothill by joining the PTO, a Booster Club, attending PAC meetings, or running for a seat on our School Organization Team.

I look forward to working with our community as we strive for excellence for all Foothill students.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jonathan Synold

Go Falcons!
